Traditional Chinese Painting traces its history back more than 4000 years. As time has passed, Chinese Painting has divided into three genres: flower-and-bird, landscape and figure drawing.

The aesthetics of traditional Chinese Painting are strongly influenced by Chinese philosophy - the interaction of Yin and Yang - always in balance, always dynamic - which makes it unique and special.

Chinese Painting emphasises the creation of ambient mood and a deep spiritual connection with nature. To capture and express the vital essence (气韵生动) of nature is more important than each realistic detail.

In our workshop, we look at seasonal flowers and start with one of the traditional styles, mo-gu（没骨）also known as “boneless”.

After step-by-step introductions to the traditional materials and painting techniques, you will soon find your own way to express your feelings and interpretation.

We don’t have to create something new. We just need to listen to the timeless wisdom of the ancients and draw from the vibrant energy of nature.

Chinese Painting Class

After a detailed introduction to Chinese painting: development, styles, and traditional materials (brush, ink, paper/silk, inkstone, Chinese pigment), we start with seasonal flowers.

Step by step you experiment with special materials and unique Chinese painting techniques. After six sessions you will be surprised at your beautiful artwork!

Take this wonderful opportunity to explore your creativity while learning a traditional artform. The process of painting is very meditative, encouraging mindfulness and patience. This experience offers insight into Chinese culture and its deep connection with nature and art.

Chinese Fan Painting for Adults or Kids

After a brief introduction to Chinese painting, we begin with a few basic brush strokes - the foundation of Chinese painting. After that, we focus on finishing your fan, made from bamboo and rice paper.

Whether you're an adult or a child, Chinese fan painting provides a relaxing, creative outlet and a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese art.

By the end of the workshop, you not only have your own beautiful, hand-painted fan but also a new appreciation for the artistry and philosophy behind Chinese painting.
